The construction of the Sydney Opera House was completed ten years later than anticipated and cost $102 million, instead of the planned $7 million. Utzon, the floors would have been wooden or granite. The bright red and purple carpets inside the Opera House caught my attention, but as our tour guide explained, it was because other people worked on finishing the interior. His son later came back and helped to finish the Opera House by following his Dad’s architectural designs. Jorn Utzon, who was the architect of this marvelous monument never got a chance to see the finished product because he was dismissed from the project and left Sydney forever. However, what surprised me even more was the history and all the planning that went into constructing it.

It was unbelievable how all the domes together formed such a beautiful building. Once we got there, I was amazed by the structure of it. I’ve seen the Sydney Opera House on many postcards and pictures, but I’ve never thought that I would see it up close, since we live on the opposite side of the globe. While it is a very touristy attraction, for me it was more than just another sightseeing stop. The next day, we had a tour of the Sydney Opera House.
